Frequently Asked Questions

What makes sports chiropractic different from regular chiropractic care?

Sports chiropractic places a heavier emphasis on soft tissue work and performance-focused rehabilitation. For athletes, the goal often isn't just to resolve pain, it's to stabilize the body from week to week so they can keep competing.

When working with athletes, Dr. Bolden Harris uses more focused tools like instrument-assisted scraping, taping, shockwave therapy, and soft tissue therapies alongside adjustments. The focus on joint biomechanics, mobility, stability, and explosive movement is more intensive than in a standard treatment plan aimed at long-term pain relief.

Do I need to be a competitive athlete to benefit from sports chiropractic?

Not at all. Whether you're competing on weekends, keeping up with a yard project, or just trying to move more comfortably day to day, the principles are largely the same. The goal is always to reduce nerve interference, restore joint mobility, and improve how your body functions.

A competitive athlete and someone who spends their Saturday painting a fence both need good biomechanics and healthy soft tissue. The difference is mostly in the level of explosive output required, not in the care itself.

What should I expect at my first sports chiropractic visit?

Your first visit begins with a thorough consultation and health history, including questions about any past traumas that could be affecting how your body moves today. From there, Dr. Bolden Harris performs a comprehensive physical exam with orthopedic and neurological testing, along with digital X-rays to evaluate spinal structure and identify any degenerative changes.

All of this gives a clear picture of what's underlying your symptoms, so that care can be targeted at the actual cause rather than just the surface-level complaint. It also ensures that we can work toward making your body function optimally for peak performance week after week.

How does chiropractic care help prevent injuries or support faster recovery?

Restricted joints and accumulated scar tissue both limit your range of motion over time, and reduced mobility significantly increases injury risk. Regular chiropractic care addresses those underlying restrictions so your body can move more fluidly under load.

For sports and movement recovery, clearing nerve interference and improving soft tissue health restores mobility, which supports better reaction time, improved power output, and a faster return to full function after an injury.

What complementary therapies does Dr. Harris offer for athletes?

In addition to precise chiropractic adjustments, Family Wellness at Teravista offers instrument-assisted scraping, kinesiology taping, and shockwave therapy to support soft tissue healing and recovery.

These therapies are used alongside spinal care to address the full picture of an athlete's needs, from acute injury to ongoing performance maintenance.
